Alpine Regenerative Hubs - Travel Experiences with Real & Measurable Positive Impact
"Alpine Regenerative Hubs" empowers tourism stakeholders to transition to nature-positive practices through a collaborative, data-driven tool. In response to natural disasters like floods and landslides enhanced by climate change, the project focuses on restoring these areas via regenerative tourism. Services include environmental assessment, design regenerative travel experiences, and impact monitoring aiming to engage new tourists, create jobs, and align Alpine tourism with new ESG standards.
What issue does your project address, and why do you want to tackle it?
Our project tackles the pressing issue of environmental degradation in the Alpine regions, which has led to more frequent and severe climate-related disasters like floods and landslides, particularly in areas prone to soil erosion. We aim to combat this by developing regenerative tourism, focusing on restoring and revitalizing these vulnerable lands. This approach not only enhances the resilience of Alpine ecosystems but also supports local communities and aligns the tourism industry with ESG standards, promoting a sustainable future for both nature and tourism.
What is your project about and how does it make tourism in the Alps future-proof?
Our project future-proofs Alpine tourism by pioneering the first tool an framework to empower regenerative tourism. We work with local partners to assess and design restoration projects that can be integrated with current tourist experiences. Travelers and businesses actively engage in nature restoration and field learning, promoting a sustainable tourism model that revitalizes degraded lands, supports local communities, and aligns with new ESG standards for a resilient Alpine future.
How do you measure your project's success?
We will begin by implementing two hubs’ pilots in Alpine regions in Switzerland. Stay tuned to discover the selected destinations soon!
Our impact metrics will measure local participation and visitor engagement. Key performance indicators include:
• Number of local partners joining the hubs
• Number of new services created
• Percentage of land under regeneration
• Number of tourists participating
• Number of local biodiversity aimed to be restored
• Increase of occupancy rate & revenues
Who are the people behind the project and what is your secret to a great collaboration?
Terrabiom is an impact-driven organization dedicated to designing accessible, science-based frameworks and collaborative approaches for land restoration. Betreat, a Swiss regenerative events agency, focuses on corporate events that regenerate both people and the planet. Both partners, hosted by the leading environmental organisation WWF, share the ambition to foster regenerative tourism in mountain regions. Together, they aim to set a benchmark for regenerative tourism from Switzerland to the world.
