TomorrowBolt by ReBolting
The project pursues two core objectives: 1) the development of climbing bolts that are made of sustainable material and that can be replaced during route renovation without the need for a new borehole. The TomorrowBolt should become a standard in the international route-setter and renovation scene. 2) The exemplification and promotion of sustainable, local and safe rock climbing with respect for natural resources to help climbers to make climate-positive choices.

What issue does your project address, and why do you want to tackle it?
Climbing has become a popular sport, growing by 800% since the 1990s. Many tourist destinations offer indoor climbing as a bad weather alternative, with 70% of indoor climbers aiming to climb outdoors. The Alps are ideal for rock climbing year-round. However, there is an increased need for climbing guidance and infrastructure.
We aim to facilitate sustainable climbing infrastructure with recycled bolts to keep climbing safe while fostering respect for nature and promoting local adventures.
What is your project about and how does it make tourism in the Alps future-proof?
Future-proof tourism in the Alps requires attractive summer and winter activities that adapt to climate change and minimize environmental impact. Rock climbing increasingly meets this need if practiced safely and sustainably. Essential elements include proper infrastructure, updated information, and effective promotion. Safety entails checking and replacing route material and rock quality. The TomorrowBolt project addresses these needs with community work and by using new eco-friendly bolts.
